In 2015, actor Cillian Murphy and his wife, artist Yvonne McGuinness, left London behind to settle in Monkstown, Dublin.

The couple purchased a restored Victorian home for about $1.9 million, seeking a quieter environment after more than a decade in the bustling city.

Murphy explained that returning to Ireland was about creating “a better environment for the kids,” giving their two sons a more grounded upbringing.

The Victorian Architecture

Originally completed in the 1860s, the home spans 3,444 square feet and combines 19th-century charm with modern updates.

The six-bedroom residence retains classic architectural details such as high ceilings, large windows that flood the rooms with natural light, and a curved staircase.

It also features a drawing room and a spacious living area with a fireplace, reflecting the couple’s preference for heritage and authenticity over flash.

Outdoor Living Spaces

While much of the home’s appeal lies in its interiors, the property also offers extensive outdoor areas.

A terrace provides a comfortable sitting space for enjoying fresh air, while landscaped lawns and a backyard garden create an oasis of calm.

The grounds even include a swimming pool, balancing family comfort with leisure.

For Murphy, the move back to Ireland was less about luxury and more about routine.

In an interview, he noted that life in London had left him feeling disconnected, whereas Dublin allowed his family to enjoy a calmer, more balanced lifestyle.

With nearby schools, parks, yacht clubs, and easy access to the beach, the Monkstown neighborhood provides everything the Murphy family needs without the glare of Hollywood paparazzi.
