Jason Bateman and his wife, Amanda Anka, the daughter of legendary singer Paul Anka, quietly grew their Beverly Hills presence after purchasing Ernest Borgnine’s former estate for $3 million in 2013.
Located on a knoll above Mulholland Drive, the property sits on Lake Glen Drive and originally spanned 6,148 square feet.
A few years after their first acquisition, the couple purchased the neighboring house and renovated it, joining the two parcels into a larger private compound.
Inside the Borgnine Estate
The original Borgnine estate, built in 1938 by architect L.G. Scherer, was owned by the Academy Award–winning actor for nearly six decades.
The residence features five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, along with a formal entry hall, paneled library, office, and den.
Its centerpiece is a sweeping circular staircase accented with stained glass.
The estate also includes a one-bedroom guesthouse with its own living room and kitchen.
The home’s layout highlights luxury and comfort, with a master suite wing upstairs that offers dual dressing rooms, walk-in closets, a private sitting room, and a balcony.
Additional amenities include indoor and outdoor pools, tall windows throughout, and expansive entertaining spaces such as a formal dining room, breakfast nook, and wet bar.
Creating Privacy and Space
Bateman and Anka’s decision to expand their property by acquiring the neighboring home was driven by the need for more privacy and family-friendly space.
While the Borgnine estate itself boasted elegance and charm, it offered little separation from nearby houses, with minimal backyard space.
By combining the two properties, the couple ensured greater seclusion and a more accommodating environment for raising their daughters, Francesca Nora and Maple Sylvie.
A Commitment to Sustainability
In addition to expanding their living space, Bateman has extended his passion for renewable energy into his home life.
Known for pioneering “green sets” in Hollywood productions, including his 2012 indie film Bad Words which used solar power during filming, Bateman reportedly installed solar panels on the estate’s roof.
This eco-friendly approach aligns with his efforts to encourage sustainable practices both on and off set.

A Balanced Hollywood Lifestyle
Though Bateman is celebrated for roles in Arrested Development, Horrible Bosses, and more recently directing and starring in projects such as Ozark, he has emphasized the importance of keeping his family grounded.
The expanded Beverly Hills compound reflects this balance—providing a retreat from Hollywood’s spotlight while still maintaining architectural charm and history.
