The Humane Society of the United States hosted its annual “To the Rescue!” Gala in New York, raising over $2 million to support lifesaving animal rescue efforts.

Actor Jerry O’Connell co-hosted the evening alongside Humane Society leaders, bringing star power and heartfelt passion to the milestone event.

The gala marked one of the most successful fundraising nights in the organization’s history.

Supporting Global Rescue Efforts

Funds raised from the evening will directly support the Humane Society’s ongoing mission, which includes animal rescue operations, emergency veterinary care, and international campaigns to end the dog meat trade.

Each year, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and its global arm, Humane Society International, save and rehabilitate thousands of animals from cruelty, neglect, and natural disasters.

O’Connell expressed his pride in being part of the effort, telling People magazine that he felt honored to support “such an important mission for animals in need.”

Performances and Honors

The gala was not only a fundraiser but also a celebration of leaders in animal advocacy.

Past honorees have included Unilever, MUTTS cartoonist Patrick McDonnell, and the Alex & Elisabeth Lewyt Charitable Trust, all recognized for their commitment to animal welfare.

The evening has also featured special musical performances, including by Gavin DeGraw, who energized attendees with a set of his most beloved songs.

Family Values in Action

For O’Connell and his wife, actress Rebecca Romijn, animal rescue is more than philanthropy—it is a family commitment.

The couple, who share their home with multiple rescue pets, have passed on their compassion to their twin daughters, Dolly and Charlie.

Romijn has spoken about how their children participate in adoption events and learn early lessons about responsibility and giving back.

“Animals are front and center in our lives,” Romijn explained at a past gala. “Our kids are already getting involved in animal rescue, and it’s amazing to see them so inspired.”

A Legacy of Protection

Founded in 1954, the Humane Society of the United States continues to fight against puppy mills, factory farms, trophy hunts, animal testing, and other cruel practices.

With millions of supporters worldwide, the organization provides direct care to more than 100,000 animals every year while working to strengthen laws and elevate public awareness of animal issues.

President and CEO Kitty Block praised the generosity of supporters, calling the New York gala “a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together to protect animals.”
